Genting Highlands, Malaysia
Genting Highlands is a hill resort in the mountains above Kuala Lumpur, and for most Indian travellers it's the easiest day trip from KL. You get cool mountain air, a long cable car ride over the rainforest, a Chinese temple built into the hillside and two theme parks – all about an hour from the city.
Getting there from Kuala Lumpur
Genting is roughly 50–60 km from central KL. The simplest options are the direct buses from KL Sentral or TBS, or a Grab/taxi if you're travelling as a family or group. Most people go up to Awana station at the base and take the Awana Skyway cable car to the top.
Awana Skyway & Chin Swee Caves Temple
The Awana Skyway glides over thick rainforest and is worth doing even if you skip everything else. It has a mid-station at Chin Swee Caves Temple, a Taoist temple complex on the hillside with a pagoda, statues and big views over the valley – get off here first, then continue to the top.
Theme parks at the top
At the summit you'll find Genting SkyWorlds, the outdoor theme park, plus a large indoor theme park and shopping area for rainy days. If rides are your main reason to go, book tickets in advance and go on a weekday.
Tips before you go
It's noticeably colder than KL, so carry a light jacket. Weekends and Malaysian school holidays get crowded. Cloud can roll in quickly, so plan the cable car and temple for the morning when views are clearer. Check Skyway operating hours before you leave, as it occasionally closes for maintenance.
